Kazi Sheikh Reaz Uddin Ahmed
Qazi Sheikh Reaz Uddin Ahmed was born in the month of January 1883 in the Qazi family of Dalgram Union of Kaliganj. His father's name is Haji Sheikh Muhammad Zain Ullah and mother's name is Phul Bibi. He was a batman, educationist, historian, literary and socially conscious activist. He successfully translated the book 'Short History of the Saracens' written by Sir Syed Amir Ali. The book, translated in three volumes, was published as 'History of the Arab Nation' namely the first volume in 1910, the second volume in 1912 and the third volume in 1915. Bangla Academy published three volumes of the book together in 1971. Moreover, he translated the book The Preaching of Islam written by Sir Thomas Walker Arnold published in London and Aligarh in 1896 and named it 'History of Islam Preaching'.His novel Maleka was published in 1920. Kazi Sheikh Reaz Uddin Ahmed was widely known as a lathial. He was the president of Nikhil Banga Lathial Samiti founded in 1934. After the division of the country, this association was named East Pakistan Lathiall Bahini. About 20 thousand Lathials were members of this force. The Government of Pakistan awarded him the title of 'Tamgha-e Majlis'. He died on 25 June 1972.
Dharmanarayan Sarkar Bhaktisastri
On December 30, 1917, Dharmanarayan Sarkar Bhaktisashtri, a renowned researcher of the northern region, was born in Srikhat village of Dalgram Union of Kaliganj. His father's name is Ramhari Sarkar and mother's name is Dhaneshwari Devi. In 1941 he finished his institutional education and started teaching in primary school. He formed a theater group called 'Dadabhai Yuva Natya Sangh' in Dalgram. His two plays 'Dada' and 'Natak Nai' were staged in many places. After retiring from teaching on 31 January 1976, he devoted himself to research on history-tradition and metaphysical propaganda. Among the three books written by him, History of the North Bengal Rajvanshi Kshatriya Race was published on 14 Bhadra of 1390 Bengal, Bhadra Ray Saheb Panchanan on 23 Bhadra of 1391 Bengal and Folk Literature and Language of North Bengal was published on 27 Magh of 1392 Bengal.He received the title and honor of 'Bhaktisastri' from the Vishwa Vaishnava Raj Sabha in 1981 and the title and honor of 'Upadeshaka' in 1982 by the Navadwipdham Pracharani Sabha. He left this world on October 19, 1992.
